Recently I was contacted by A11N Sports to see if I might be interested in testing their Hyperfeather Pro Pickleball paddle. I love playing with new equipment, so why not?
The paddle showed up last week and I was finally able to give it a test run a couple of days ago. Now for reference, my current paddle of choice is the Paddletek Bantam TS-5 Pro which is a phenomenal paddle.
My first impression was positive. The packaging is very professional and it includes an over grip and neoprene head cover.
My second impression was how well the paddle seemed to be built. I have had a few paddles and even brand new they normally have some sort of cosmetic glitch but this one didn’t. They did a really nice job with the construction and finishing touches. One thing I immediately noticed is how thin it is. I didn’t measure but I would bet it’s at least 33% thinner than my Paddletek. At this point I wasn’t sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing.
It’s great for a paddle to look good, but how does it play? First impression the thinness jumped right out to me. While it feels really nice in the hand, you can really tell it doesn’t have a lot of meat to it. But again, I was comparing it to a much thicker paddle so, not really fair at this point.
As the points and games went on I became more comfortable with the differences. It took a little more muscle to generate the power I am used to. The touch was pretty solid. I had no problem nailing my third shot drops which was nice. The more we played, the more impressed I was with the construction. It really is well built and feels good in the hand.
At the end of the day it isn’t fair to compare it to something like the Paddletek Bantam TS-5 pro. The Bantam costs around $150 while you can pick one of the Hyperfeather Pro’s up for $40.
Summary: While I won’t be switching to this paddle, I would definitely recommend it to beginner or intermediate players. Looks good, feels good and the price is definitely right!
